Article description

Gilles De Rais, also known as Count Gilles de Montmorency-Laval and Baron de Rais, has kept the hardworking metal heads at CRADLE OF FILTH very busy. The 15th century French nobleman is the subject of the album ‘Godspeed on the Devil's Thunder’. Not surprisingly, Dani Filth and his men are fond of this bloodthirsty story, on which the legend of King Bluebeard is supposedly based.

by Thomas Clausen (03.11.2008) The British horror aficionados swing their axes for the eighth time on this concept album. Almost ten years after their bow to the cruelties of legendary countess Elisabeth Bathory on "Cruelty & the beast", they -together with producer Andy Sneap (Opeth, Arch Enemy, a.o.)- take their hats off to the works of legendary French commander and Satanist Gilles de Rais. This reverence is long overdue - and happens appropriately tough, fast, and extremely atmospheric on songs like "Shat out of hell", "Midnight shadows crawl to darken counsel with life" and "Corpseflower"! Sceptics who already have accused COF of sucking up to mainstream after their last cooperations with Ville Valo (HIM) and Liv Christine, will be quieted quickly after hearing "Godspeed on the devil´s thunder": Dani Filth & Co. have gone back to their bloody roots - accompanied by thunder, lightning and apocalyptic sounds!
