Horropunk

Alien Sex Fiend are probably the most striking and best-known representatives of horror punk. They still come from the old Batcave club in London, where the scene originated. Distorted vocals, horror outfit, horror make-up, horror stage design, horror performance: these are the trademarks of the genre. Musically, there is a certain proximity to rockabilly, garage rock, death rock and hardcore punk. The musical parents of today's horror punks are bands like the Misfits and The Cramps - or the aforementioned Alien Sex Fiend.

The horror punks' role models are the characters from the old horror flicks with Bela Lugosi and Boris Karloff. Monsters are omnipresent in the songs and on stage, as are bloodstained outfits, zombies and skulls. The lyrics often refer to horror B-movies or old gothic literature. Today's representatives of the musical genre of horror punk include, for example, Bloodsucking Zombies from Outer Space or Koffin Katz and The Creepshow. The names already give it away. Things are not particularly serious on stage. If you don't know Horrorpunk, you can imagine normal punk music with a bit of rockabilly and clear vocals. Then it's already close to the genre. If then the old Crimson Ghost symbol of the band Misfits appears, you are right in the middle of horror punk.
