Jewellery

Jewellery is the most important characteristic of goths, next to the characteristic gothic clothes. It can be a statement, or it can pimp the simple outfit of a black shirt and black trousers in the twinkling of an eye. Very important: goths mainly wear silver jewellery, although there is a trend within the scene that plays with gold jewellery. The classic gothic symbols, from ankh to bats to pentagrams, serve as pendants. Gemstones such as ruby, amethyst and onyx are also popular. By the way, when it comes to jewellery, the Gothic motto is: more is more! A ring on each finger, ten necklaces instead of just one, a whole row of bangles. Headdresses are also a must, at least for the romantic faction. Another characteristic feature is the nose chain, which is rarely seen in mainstream fashion. It is attached to the earring and the nose ring and has several small pendants, such as ankh crosses. Also characteristic are contact lenses that make the eyes look creepy or glow in an unnatural colour. A special type of gothic jewellery is, of course, body modifications such as the forked tongue, sharpened ears that look like elf ears, or vampire teeth where the real teeth have been sharpened or extended by attachable teeth. Tattoos with typical gothic motifs and piercings are also often seen in the black scene, but there is no difference to the mainstream. An exception is the tattoo on the characteristic sidecut or undercut.
