Article description

68 minutes is a nice running time for an EP. The most important part is the 30 minutes epic title track, and the both cover version of Metallica ("For whom the bell tolls") and Merciless ("Back to north"). The ensemble is rounded off by two new recorded demo songs from the nineties.

by Markus Wosgien (08.04.2008) Why stay short if there is so much to say. The Finns, Moonsorrow, are known for their long, monumental and epic songs with atmospheres that represent a world of their own. The title track, "Tulimyrsky" clocks in at roundabout 30 minutes and presents the whole Moonsorrow range. Black Metal is combined with Progressive sounds of the 70s and some modern Pagan/Viking Metal, adequately called "Jethro Tull from hell" on the info sheet. A fantastic song as only Bathory could have written it, too. The 68-minute EP is additionally enhanced by a cult cover version of the Metallica evergreen, "For whom the bell tolls", the no less great Merciless cover, "Back to North" as well as the two new recorded songs, "Taistelu pohjolasta" and "Hvergelmir", originally taken from their old demos from the years 1997/1998. Unusual bands come up with unusual ideas.
