After their previous Album, PREQUELLE, nominated for Best Rock Album at the 2018 Grammy Awards, set in the 14th century during the European plague pandemic, Ghost finds themselves litresally catapulted hundreds of years into the future with IMPERA. The result is the most ambitious and lyrically concise work in Ghost's Album canon: throughout the 12-song cycle of IMPERA, empires rise and fall, self-proclaimed messiahs engage in (monetary and spiritual) hype-marketing, and prophecies are made, all while the firmament is filled with celestial bodies of divine and human creation.
