"God games" LP by The Kills

The Kills announce the release of their sixth studio album “God Games”. Black vinyl includes 16-page booklet and download card.

Over the 12 tracks from “God Games”, Alison Mosshart and Jamie Hince venture into new sonic realms but without drifting too far from the band’s signature bravura. Following the dual single “New York/LA Hex” in July 2023, the album’s announcement on 30 August is accompanied by the single “103”. While “LA Hex” focused its gaze on the emotional and interpersonal realities of modern life in Los Angeles, “103” (meaning degrees Fahrenheit) highlights the brutal reality of the frightening unliveable state of the city through the lens of a dark, twisted love song – Mosshart sings cutting lyrics like “stick with me under the last palm tree / and sip a little water from the dirty fountain meant to be / the sum of it all”.

“God Games” focuses on the original call-and-response between Mosshart’s full-body vocal catharsis and Hince’s swaggering, guillotine-smooth guitar playing. The pair have expanded their typical sound and decided to write from new perspectives. For the first time, the duo has written primarily on piano, incorporating innovative electronic and horn textures, crystal-clear production and deeply human lyrics, as well as a collaboration with the Compton Kidz Club Choir on “LA Hex” and “My Girls My Girls”. Work on the album began in 2019 and the duo moved into an old church to record the album with Academy® and GRAMMY® award-winning producer Paul Epworth (Adele, Paul McCartney), who was in fact their very first soundman in 2002.
