Guns N' Roses are probably one of the greatest bands in hard rock history. Is there anything this band hasn’t achieved? Drugs, alcohol, women and concerts played to hundreds of thousands of fans - they all played their part in Axl Rose's life and added to the band’s hard rock image. Albums like Appetite for Destruction (CD | vinyl), Use Your Illusion Vol.1 (CD |vinyl) and Vol. 2 (CD | vinyl) secured these rockin’ Californians a place in the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame and their place in not just rock history, but music history.
Guns N’ Roses may be a little older and less mobile then in their crotch-wiggling, guitar-shredding pomp, but they can still rock – whether that’s with the original line-up or the “new” Guns N’ Roses that brought us what turned out to be a one-off album in Chinese Democracy, which still featured an unmistakeably GNR sound despite Rose being the only original member left.
Far from being relegated to the rock legend retirement home, Guns N’ Roses have left their mark on an entire music genre. Songs such as “Welcome To The Jungle”, “Sweet Child O‘ Mine”, “November Rain” or “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door” are true classics that are on every music fan’s radar.
Though Axl’s voice and Slash's legendary riffs are the first thing that comes to mind for many when the topic of Guns N’ Roses comes up, rhythm guitarist Izzy Stradlin also shaped the Guns N' Roses signature sound. Indeed, many musicians have; over the years the band’s line-up seemed to change according to Axl’s whims. On guitar alone, we’ve seen Slash, Buckethead, Bumblefoot and Robert Finck. Axl Rose is, and remains, the only constant member. Bass players came and went, including Duff McKagan, Ole Beich and Tommy Stinson – but even through all of these line-up changes Guns N’ Roses have retained an army of loyal fans.
January 2016 marked a journey back to Guns N’ Roses’ roots. Rumours spread like wildfire online claiming that the band would return, in their (mostly) original line-up. Many thought Axl was purely on a booze-induced ramble but, sure enough, Slash and Duff McKagan returned, rocking stages worldwide with the Not in this Lifetime… tour.
