The Pagan Village, which can be found at the biggest festival of the black scene, the Wave Gotik Treffen in Leipzig, already gives a hint that the time before Christianity entered the black scene is very popular. Amidst trees on a forest floor, Goths in the Pagan Village enjoy a mixture of the Middle Ages, natural religions, mysticism and fantasy. A great role in the love of paganism is probably played by the lust for the past. Old gods and ancient sagas hold many exciting secrets and a large portion of spirituality.

Gothics, however, tend to identify with what is called the "neo-pagan movement". An ecological worldview goes hand in hand with a holistic attitude to life and a natural spirituality. Historical paganism is at best known through old traditions and holidays. Beltane is celebrated while the witches dance on the Blocksberg on Walpurgis Night or Samhain while the normal population dresses up for Halloween. However, "celebrating" should not be overrated. People just want a nice pagan holiday. Of course, there are supposed to be some representatives who imitate the historical pagans and celebrate according to the old tradition. Paganism is also called Paganism. In the gothic scene, a whole genre of music has developed called pagan folk, served by bands like Faun or Omnia.
