Gothic Pop

Gothic pop is unscientifically understood to mean anything that is too close to the mainstream. After all, "pop" comes from popular. It doesn't really matter whether the music is rock, medieval or similar to pop. A very famous representative of gothic pop is Unheilig. Originally, Der Graf began his career in the black scene and then set off musically into the big wide world. His songs increasingly resembled pop music and whoever ends up singing a duet with Helene Fischer can also be categorised as gothic pop with pop music. Blutengel can also be counted as synth pop or dark pop. The music is catchy and danceable. Even though singer Chris Pohl has a standing in the gothic scene, he is still considered more of a mainstream artist.

But what is real gothic pop? You can actually say that some songs by THE gothic band par excellence can be counted as pop. The album "Disintegration" by The Cure is clearly pop, just like songs by Depeche Mode. They are, after all, considered pioneers of synthesiser pop.
