Gothic Comics

Comics have a firm place in the Gothic scene. Even in the relevant scene magazines, comic pictures can be seen again and again. The best known is probably "Dead", who walks through his everyday life in classic old-grufti style and provides laughs. But comic books also find their fans in the "black scene", for example the Sandman series by Neil Gaiman. Many classic horror stories were also published as comics and are now real collectors' items.

Recently read comics in the scene are those by Roman Dirge. He invented "Lenore, the Cute Little Dead Girl". Literary fans of the dark genre will immediately notice her name. It comes from the poem of the same name by Edgar Allan Poe. Lenore is undead and plays with all kinds of bizarre creatures. There is black humour in two senses of the word. Comics like Nemi or Emily Strange are similarly popular. Here, too, dark girls are at the centre of the stories.

One comic simply has to be mentioned in connection with the Black scene: "The Crow". The graphic novel by James O'Barr was published in the late 80s and later made into a film. The first issue of the series was dedicated to Ian Curtis. He was the singer of Joy Division, one of the most famous post-punk bands.
