by Marcel Anders (29.09.2006) By the end of the 80s, Rock'n'Roll became too boring for them - as well as the flirt with Blues and Folk,. Consequently, on "Achtung Baby" and "Zooropa", U2 simply re-invented themselves and changed their sound for an experimental Disco-HighTech-Rock. Which was set forth on stage: "Zoo-TV" (1992/1993) was a giant multimedia-show in which the Irish became their own supernumeraries. The centre of the show was not Bono, the huge god, but the playing with technique - with pictures from the colourful TV world that they set to scene with huge efforts. A touring TV channel for which U2 delivered the soundtrack. And that was not only thrilling when it came to classics like "New year's day", "Pride" and a cover of Lou Reed's "Satellite of love". The latter as the highlight of the acoustic set in the middle of the audience presenting U2 for some moments as musicians of flesh and blood, who can well do without all the technique. And it's exactly there where they return to at the end of the 2-hour show. Bono becomes the Mephisto, covered in Elvis's glitter suit, setting out for "Can't help falling in love with you". Greetings from Las Vegas!
