by Marcel Anders (13.07.2006) Sure, there are plenty of retro rockers around and most of them are not even from bad parents. Yet, what this trio from Australia presents is pure magic: an authentic time travel into the late 60s and early 70s. With edgy riffs, blasting drums, expressive vocals in best Plant manner, and 13 songs covering the whole spectrum of that time. "Woman“ reminds me of Deep Purple, "Where the eagles have been“ is a semi-acoustic Led Zep-ballad, "Apple tree“ revives the punk spirit of MC5, "Colossal“ is purely Sabbath, "Tales" a hallucinating piece of psychedelia and "Vagabond“ is true flower power. Short: nobody has been as close to the originals as Wolfmother, not even the White Stripes. No wonder that Wolfmother run in open doors everywhere, were invited to open the Pearl Jam-world tour, and are already considered the newcomer of the year 2006. The debut album was produced by Dave Sardy and was already released in Australia and the U.S. last year - so much for the topic globalisation…
