20 Years of Weltunter
'Come on in and spend an hour or two up here in the dark tower…' - with the re-release of the cult album 'WELTUNTER' for its 20th anniversary, we (retreat) back into the Dark Tower. The album, which surprised fans in 2003 with more pronounced rock elements and continues to captivate after two decades with immortal song classics - not least the mega-hit 'Ich will brennen' - is finally being released on Vinyl as well as in an extensive CD box.

Back then, in 2003, 'Weltunter' was a difficult birth, as the distribution went bankrupt, and album sales fell short of expectations - for details, see Asp Spreng's book: 'Horror Vacui - Closer to the Abyss.' Despite this, the work managed to earn a tremendous cult status over the years. For many fans, this album was the gateway drug to a many-year-lasting, health-promoting addiction. Even today, numerous songs from 'Weltunter' are absolute crowd-pleasers live! For the first time, one could get a glimpse through the keyhole into an entire narrative universe that grew larger in both the 'Schmetterlings' and 'Fremder' cycles. The success was not least due to the elaborately designed artwork, for which Ingo Römling was responsible. For the first time, the songs surrounding the Black Butterfly received an external garment worthy of them. Disturbing images that made the stories of the creature and its hosts and victims seem even more terrifying and showcased mastermind Asp Spreng in one of his most iconic incarnations.

Monumental sounds before the storm, exhilarating 'burning,' energetic wolf transformations, consuming desire, and touching loss - and last but not least, the mirror that is held up to society, which can be so ugly.
