by Lothar Landt (27.06.2007) Although Lillian Axe released their debut as early as 1988, "Waters rising" is only the sixth album of the quintet. Of course the line-up has changed over the years, but guitarist Steve Blaze is still the driving force. With singer Derrick LeFevre there is a new guy at the front who can absolutely convince. And in 2007, Lillian Axe is miles away from their former Glam Rock. Already the opener, "Waters rising", is a bit gloomy despite its clear melody- and vocal lines. The following "Antarctica" hits the same road. It starts gloomily dragging with a melodic guitar and a heavy riff. In "Become a monster", Lillian Axe increase the pace with a very cool riff. "Quarantine" with its intro reminds me of good 70s Rock. A highlight of the album is also "Fear of time". Most of the songs are mid-tempo paced, still there is a lot of variation. Of the ballads especially "Until the end of the world" can convince. A great comeback with some great surprising moments.
