by Matthias Mineur (01/02) It's a saga that bad powers have tried to hinder the Finnish band Moonsorrow from getting a stand in the beloved Scandinavian Metal scene. For reasons that could not be unravelled, half of their demo-tapes vanished after the mastering and could not be found again. Fortunately enough, Moonsorrow didn't loose hope and can now, after the success of their debut, "Of strength and honour", release their second album. Again, the musicians mix a very interesting combination of Death Metal, melodic passages and a folk-loaded basement. You hear flutes á la Highlander, melodies that could have also come from Gary Moore's "Over the hills and far away" and choirs that remind me of Carl Orff. Sounds colourfully spiced, doesn't it? So, if you like style-crossovers and have no fear of raw Death Metal grunts, you should give this a try!
