10.No need to cry
by Markus Wosgien (02.03.2010) Gamma Ray's new, tenth album is an homage to traditional Heavy Metal. So, the ten new songs aim straight as arrows for your ears, carrying all the trademarks the Germans are well known for: bombast! Speed! Anthems! "To the Metal" starts off where the last, great release "Land of the free - part II" ended, easily and impressively staying on the same quality level. There are also some surprises, for example awesome catchy "All you need to know", featuring a duet of Michael Kiske and Kai Hansen, or the melancholic, atmospheric ballad "No need to cry", written by bass man Dirk SchlΓ€chter. The title track "To the Metal" is an invitation to sing along - the Hammond organ parts add some extra flair. Also captivating: fast "Rise" (reminding me of "Eagle fly free"), and overwhelming "Empathy" - on that one, Gamma Ray do really strut their stuff.
