Article description
The Foo Fighters use the boost from their very successful single "Learn To Fly" and release their exceptional album "There Is Nothing Left To Lose". The song "Headwires" is a real highlight, in which the Foo Fighters manage to create a perfect combination of toughness, melody and romance. The output is surprisingly harmonious without loosing its edge making the album especially interesting.

by Matthias Mineur (10/99) On their new album, the only legitimate executers of the Nirvana-heritage again proof David Grohl's tremendous songwriting and performing potential. Grohl & Co. survived the Grunge's swansong effortless, stepped out of Cobain's huge shadow just like that and were able to build a fanbase that doesn't care about sentimentalities. Their debut "Foo Fighters" turned out as an international succès d'estime, "The colour and the shape" was sold more than 2,5 million times. Whether "There is nothing left to lose" will be a similar success or not, partly depends on the single's success. "Learn to fly" is supposed to advertise the album with its straight grooves and catchy melody. If you listen to the additional material on that longplayer, you'll get the feeling, Foo Fighters would be capable of bringing their Pop-like Alternative Rock straight ahead into Hall Of Fame. What if Kurt could live to see that...! (Matthias Mineur - 10/99)
