by Markus Eck (20.11.2007) It's been a while since we last heard of these Greek veterans. Now, eight years after their last, regular, self composed studio album, "IV: Malice", bass-man and singer, The Magus alongside bassist Baron Blood returns with a new hitter. Tow bass players? Correct! Because the original idea to replace the sound of a six-string electric guitar by an eight-string (!) bass has been kept since the band's foundation in 1989. With their music, Necromantia can be called pioneers for their sound in their genre. The created ritual and harsh, often also avant-garde like style has found some copyists over the years. Not only by their skilful, staccato-like passages and many weird moments, the album turns out to be a bright panopticon of horror β supported by apocalyptic, symphonic arrangements and deep, dark epics.
