    The Metal (Album Version)

by Marcel Anders (10.01.2007) Actually, this album only functions with the film of the same name. Because "The pick of destiny" is the accompanying soundtrack and only contains four "real" songs of the Californian cult duo Jack Black und Kyle Gass. Which are the mini Rock-opera "Kickapoo" (featuring Meat Loaf and Ronnie James Dio), the Who-cover "Master exploder", the Kiss-like "Car chase city" and a five-minute "Rock out" with Nirvana-drummer and hobby-devil Dave Grohl. In between, you get short film sequences and song-ditties in which the two nevertheless present themselves at their best. "Classico" is a Bach-interpretation, "History" a great Southern-Rock-persiflage, "The government totally sucks" the straight middle finger towards George Bush and "Papagenu" a drug trip with Bigfoot. Sounds crazy? It is indeed - with the definite highlight being "The Metal": a tribute to the Spandex Rock of the 80s with the memorable line "no one can destroy the Metal". Great fun! But, as I said, only really great in combination with the film.
