by Eugen Legat (08/00) Instead of getting us in the right mood for the upcoming 35 minutes with Γ¬ malicious entreaty, kitschy keyboards or even frog-chants, The Haunted Γ¬ rather show the mission their preaching by a headbangerfriendly instrumental Γ¬ transcending directly into "Bury your dead". And this mentioned title shows Γ¬ that heavy-riffing Jensen can't let off his cult word-games known from Γ¬ Witchery. Yet, The Haunted lift from this Retro Speed Metal attitude, Γ¬ guaranteed by the three Ex-At The Gates members responsible for the rhythms Γ¬ and the second guitar in Slayer vein. And even when in comparison to the Γ¬ debut album the Alternative and Core elements have been reduced (alike to Γ¬ the parted Ex-singer Peter Dolving), you still can't file them under pure Γ¬ Trash. Some breaks are just too untypical. The musical slap mentality of a Γ¬ "Hate song" was reduced in favour of higher variability and joy for details Γ¬ without the need to name them wimps.
