After the deathy "Demonic" noone would have excpected the flagship of trash metal to change course towards the roots. Well, it did. "The gathering" is indisputably the best Testament album ever. Unstopable power, raw heavyness and the brutal way of playing confirm the high class of the band. For the drumaction the band hired Dave Lombardo - unbelievable what he does! The 11 so- fuckin heavyly produced songs are tracks of the supremest kind! Tons of magical moments like "Down for life", "D.N.R.", "Legions of the dead" (MONSTER!!!), "Careful what you wish for" (cool groove!), "Riding the snakes" or the thrilling "Allegiance". Luckily, Chuck doesn't grunt like a death metalist anymore but makes use of his evil natural voice. The guitar duo Murphy/Peterson rip ten ton riffs out of their axes with technical know how. More than many thanks to the guys who remembered their rootes and punched us right between the eyes with a superb trash album! Thank you, thank you, thank you...JΓΌrgen Tschamler
