by Fabian Groth (12/99) Where others just crudly imitate R.A.T.M., this quartet from San Diego created a surprisingly independent interpretation of this heavy crossover style. Besides Rap-vocals and heavily riff-loaded parts, P.O.D. also offer additional, individual aspects, mainly caused by the musical preferences of guitarist Marcos. His mostly admired guitar-heroe is U2's The Edge, and the cover-version "Bullet the blue sky" is some sort of tribute to him. Furthermore The Edge's excessive use of effects can easily be found on other tracks. Finally, the four interludes proove his sense for Carlos Santana's aesthetic and the ability to emphazise his melodic strenghts besides all the heavyness. Not only the spiritual band-philosophy and varied heavyness remind on the good old Bad Brains...
