by Matthias Mineur (01/02) Despite all argues in front of and behind the stages with Jack Starr for the rights on the band's name, Virgin Steele in 2002, too, belong the most important ambassadors of good (Metal-)taste. On his new studio album, "The Book Of Burning", David DeFeis presents 16 (!!) more or less new songs, partly new compositions, previously unreleased, or, like in the case of "A Cry In The Night", as new arranged acoustic version. "Conjuration Of The Watcher" is a leftover from the 'The House Of Atreus Act I'-production "Children Of The Storm" was originally released on the debut album and is now presented in a new recorded version. Considering the brand new tracks beside the older, new arranged version, you'll discover the big stylistic range that Virgin Steele has produced over the years. "Birth Through Fire" suddenly sounds far more symphonic than the original version, "The Succubus" is completely re-arranged.
