by Oliver Kube (24.07.2009) After a short stint as an instruments-only jam band The Bakerton Group, the gentlemen from Germantown/Maryland are back on the scene as we like them. Their ninth CD is even more Classic Rock than anything else Clutch, having started as Alternative Metal outfit, and also working the Stoner Rock field for a while, have delivered so far in the Retro sound department: wonderfully psychedelic, powerful Blues sound which seems to be taken directly from the late 60s or early 70s (just check out awesome "50,000 unstoppable watts" or pumping "Freakonomics"!). You still dig that early stuff by Black Sabbath, Blue Cheer, Budgie, and Mountain? Ort maybe you just found out about them because bands like Zakk Wylde, QOTSA, C.O.C., or last but not least Mastodon, like to bask in musical quotations of the afore-mentioned? Then you will love this one, and it'll stay glued in your player for ever - and it's about time this ingenious, authentic combo gets adequate recognition and respect.
