by Matthias Mader (27.04.2009) Is it the water? Naah. Maybe the beer? Hm, maybe! The Grit hail from Newcastle-upon-Tyne, well-known for its famous Brown Ale. Which may have caused some musicians to experiment a bit with mandolines, ukuleles, and various brass instruments... Well, at least it may have caused The Grit to do so on their secound album "Straight out of the alley". The result: a very harmonious mixture of Punk, Ska, Folk Rock, Psychobilly, and even a teeny bit of Country & Western. The five quiffs are quite famous in England and have already done Reading and Glastonbury. If you dig The Meteors, Joe Strummers Mescaleros, or Mad Sin with a dash of the Pogues, you'll simply fall for smashers like "Let me take you for a ride", "Victim lives another day" or "Drink till you drop". The Grit, that's pretty hot shit!
