by Markus Eck (22.02.2010) Once, they and their unique kind of epic music belonged to the best Power Metal acts - and some of their timeless songs have become evergreens today, being still unsurpassed. Masterpieces like "Hall of the mountain king" and the ΓΌber-album "Gutter ballet" made the super band and its mastermind and exceptional singer Jon Oliva famous. The band started off in the 80s in Tampa, Florida, and the influence of classical music on the otherwise progressive Savatage compositions made for an intense, theatrical, and great listening experience. Now, old and new fans have the chance to get some of the best songs of their legendary icons compiled: "Still the orchestra plays" offers gems such as "Power of the night", "Hall of the mountain king", "24 hours ago", "Legions", "Gutter ballet", the fantastic ballad "Summers rain", and the emotional, moving "When the crowds are gone"... And you shouldn't miss brilliant "Edge of thorns", of course.
