by Thomas Clausen (29.04.2009) The most successful and influential Pop band ever has released 11 studio albums so far which have all become musical milestones in the meantime, but were never easy to swallow at the beginning. Same here, with "Sounds of the universe", eagerly awaited. A dozen glossy Pop anthems, gems who need time and leisure to unfold and offer all their modern complexity. Which is an almost unaffordable luxury in these "here today, gone tomorrow" days... Of course, Dave Gahan, Martin Gore and Andrew Fletcher demand that time as usual, so you can grow into their new synthetic symphonies like the first single "Wrong", lounge ballad "Jezebel", or electro-groovy "Come back". Depeche Mode always have been and still are a highly exciting, multi-faceted piece of art with a keen sense of drama and emotion!
