by Patrick Schmidt (November 2004) You may think about Darkthrone whatever you want but they are still one of the most uncompromising bands in the black metal genre. Releasing an anti-album, like "Sardonic Wrath" these times, is brave. Almost thirty minutes long, a charming, rough sound and lot of monotonous riffs; the Norwegians don't offer lot to their fans. But it's exactly that what they are waiting for. Purest minimalism, purism in its most original form. "Sardonic Wrath" may not be the discography highlight of the band but it easily reaches the level of the Darkthrone-album, "Ravishing Grimness". IN "Sjakk Matt Jesu Krist" you even get some frosted dancealong mood which will be welcomed by the blackies of the earliest time. "Sardonic Wrath" is an album with which black metal fans can't do nothing wrong with - provided they like the old Norwegian school. Cool! (Patrick Schmidt - November 2004)
