What deserves the predicate 'unusual' if not these charismatic Swiss and their latest album, "Slania". Chrigel and his team don't care at all about any rules and in their infectious style combine whatever they like. The highly exotic fact that in doing so we experience melodic Death Metal of the Gothenburg school meets danceable, Celtic inspired Folk sounds lifts Eluveitie far from the wide range of happy Pagan Metal-combos. Four atmospheric instrumentals mark the calmer side of "Slania", while in the other songs, male and female vocals unite with powerful riffs for infectious hitters. "Inis mona" and "Bloodstained ground" can fully convince and add a top-level quality stamp to this initially strange music. Eluveitie stand for roaring feasts as much as for serious music, and with such an inventive instrumentation will appeal to a wide audience.
