by Patrick Schmidt (09/02) Already with their last, fantastic album, "Epic - the poetry of war", the former heavy rockers proved that they are also able to deliver an equally intensive and brutal album without the permanent power mentality. "Shadows and dust" further expands this development. Very powerfully and energy driven, the Canadian quartet celebrate their form of Death Metal that leaves no possibility for comparisons. No other band in the world sounds like Kataklysm, which results from the individuality of the four protagonists. Drummer Max is driving force behind the band, an absolute master of his instrument. This timing in his Blast Beat-attacks can only be copied by two or three other drummers in the genre. Guitarist JF convinces with fat, unique riffs. Singer Maurizio meanwhile has become one of the best shouters in the scene and furthermore has an immense aura. "Shadows and dust" is a masterpiece beyond any doubt.
