by Yvonne Zymolka (20.01.2008) With their second album, "Scream aim fire", the Southern Welsh high-flyers, Bullet For My Valentine say good-bye to their juvenile sins and dare the step from the Metal/Emocore-newcomers into the Metal-genre. Arguments are plenty: guitar lines and riffs that could easily come from their country fellows, Dragonforce, angry Death elements both vocally and musically, staccato salves, and some merciless drumming make this album worth discovering. Proof for that is e.g. "Eye of the storm" featuring many 80s-tributes, a fine midtempo-solo, and some melodic, old school Metal-vocals. Elements of their old heroes, Metallica – Bullet started out as a Metallica-cover band in 1997 – can also be found. If it wouldn't be for the clean choruses that add such a modern touch to this album, as well as plenty of extreme passages, providing it with the adequate heaviness, one could almost speak of some Hairspray Nostalgia Metal. "Scream aim fire" sounds all the way authentic; the four fellows have freed themselves on a technically remarkable level!
