Article description

Thanks to his summer hit "All summer long" not only Kid Rock earns a great deal of money each year, but also Lynyrd Skynyrd from whom he borrowed a motif. The previous Hip Hop roots are hardly noticeable on "Rock n Roll Jesus".

by Oliver Kube (01.10.2007) It's been four years that he released new material, still this man has been in the tabloids almost weekly. Huge motor-bikes, giant "Stars and Stripes"-flags, big golden chains around his neck, big cigars in his mouth and Pamela Anderson at his side – no other artist is so consequently Rock Star as Bob Ritchie alias Kid Rock. With his new album, the American brings the music back into the spotlight – and that is more than worthwhile. Yet, the songs featuring Country elements clearly dominate the album rather than pure Rock songs. Sure, "Sugar" and "So hott" are perfect hitters but the 36-year-old is at his best when he leans back, like e.g. in the Bluesy "New Orleans", the cool Honky Tonk in "Half your age" or with the steel guitar-ballad, "Miss Understood". The absolute highlight, however, is the "Sweet home Alabama"-tribute, "All summer long", recorded together with the Lynyrd Skynyrd-piano player, Billy Powell. Yeehaw!
