The way Dave Mustaine pushed his career with Megadeth after being booted out of Metallica in the mid 80's, freed himself from personal lows (alcohol, drugs etc.) and established an international megaseller is pretty fascinating. After the raw pieces of the early stages and the 2 phenomenal albums "Youthanasia" and "Cryptic writings" the new opus "Risk" is the third milestone in a row. Megadeth manage to sound commercial and experimental at the same time. "Crush 'em" is a suitable radio song par excellence and could turn out to be Megadeth's "Enter sandman". Furhtermore, Mr.Mustaine, Mr.Friedman, Mr.Ellefson and newcomer Mr.Jimmy De Grasso even dug out some metal classics with jewels like "Insomnia", "Enter the arena","The doctor is calling" or "Time: The beginning", "Time: The end". And thanks to Dan Huff (ex-Giant) the production is phat and still transparent. Bravo Mustaine, bravo Megadeth, the "risk" was worth being taken. (Matthias Mineur)
