by Oliver Kube (14.11.2007) What a great idea for an album: the Finnish supergroup, Northern Kings, featuring the four frontmen, Marco Hietiela (Nightwish, Tarot), Tony Kakko (Sonata Arctica), JP Leppäluoto (Charon) and J. Ahola (Teräsbetoni) deliver mainstream-chartbreakers of the last decades in great, bombastic Metal versions. They kick off with Journey's power-epic, "Don't stop believin'", before they cover Tina Turner's "Mad Max 3"-hymn, "We don't need another hero" in an equally unique way. The absolute highlights are, e.g., Billy Idol's "Rebel yell" and the string-supplied "I just died in your arms tonight" (originally from Cutting Crew) provided with a lot of Gothic-atmosphere. But also "Hello" (Lionel Richie), Phil Collins' "In the air tonight" and the bulky "Creep" of Radiohead should cause quite some stir in this form. Which is not to say that the rest of the songs of, e.g., Dire Straits, Jethro Tull and ELO were treated with less anticipation. Party on!
