On 22 September 2017, the Devin Townsend Project performed a very special concert in the ancient Roman amphitheatre in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. A celebration of the last 20 years. After performing a set selected by the fans from Devinβs entire back catalogue, the band played the entire milestone album βOcean Machineβ on the 20th anniversary of its release. The latter was accompanied by the orchestra and choir of Plovdivβs State Opera. The concert was filmed and released under the title βOcean Machine β Live at the Ancient Theatreβ.
Devin commented, βOcean Machine was released 20 years ago, and although Marty (the bandβs former drummer) is no longer with us, this concert finally enabled me and original bassist John βSquidβ Harder to give a live performance of the entire full-length album. On a cold evening in an old town in an ancient theatre, many aspects of my life came together and connected, and Iβm extremely proud of the result. This is a very special live recording of a very special evening and I hope you can see it and enjoy it as a tribute to the things that inspired it all in the first place.
