Article description
He is THE constant of the German metal scene: On April 6, 2022, icon Udo Dirkschneider will celebrate a whopping 70 years. Born in post-war Wuppertal, when Heavy Metal was far from being invented, he has been one of the decisive characters shaping this music genre for many years. He has been an integral part of it for about five decades. On April 22, his most personal and extraordinary album to date will be released: it includes 17 cover versions of exactly the songs that have influenced the musician and singer the most. Among them are all kinds of classics from music history - including some that Udo may not have expected. Behind all the tracks, there is not only a very personal story, but also occasionally surprising arrangements that, despite their very individual implementation, always bear Udo's signature. The cover album also makes one thing clear: how many people have come and gone in the music industry over the years. Udo Dirkschneider is still here. While his unchangeable nature briefly threatened him in the midst of the normative music industry in the 80s, it has long been his greatest strength. All of this makes Udo Dirkschneider one of the greatest and most impressive rock and metal icons of recent decades.
