by Markus Eck (19.02.2010) If you love epic, Scandinavian Gothic Metal, the name Morten Veland will certainly ring a bell: the gifted Norwegian has already written a chapter of genre history with his super bands Tristania and Sirenia. Now the creative spirit is back on the scene with his new project Mortemia, presenting us with - no surprise here - classy, sophisticated Symphonic Gothic Metal on this debut album titled "Misere mortem". As announced in advance by the master, this sublime creation indeed follows the path once chosen by Tristania on their successful oevre "Beyond the veil" back in 1999. The compositions are elegant, intoxicating, traditional in the most positive meaning, gaining even more atmospheric weight by epic choirs - yet they still offer some subtle hints at a modern facet of the genre. If you appreciate old Tristania because of the anthems or Sirenia material, this one should definitely be in your collection.
