11.I Don't Know
by Markus Wosgien (15.01.2007) Hannover used to be the capital of German Hardrock with names like e.g. the Scorpions and Victory. Nikki Puppet set forth the spirits of these legends and happily rock in their own way. "Militant mother" can easily outlive the average debut "Puppet on a string" and appears fresh and dynamic. Songs like the catchy "Turning in circles", the fast opener "Lost in time" and the groovy "Open up your mind" stick in your ear and you instantly wish yourself in front of the stage with your girlfriend, a beer and a fag. With her rough voice singer and name giving Nicky Gronewold provides the right Rock'n'Roll-attitude, not to mention her optical amenities. "Militant mother" is a variable Hardrock album, sometimes punky, melodic, modern, or simply angry. The album was produced by Victory guitarist Hermann Frank, who exactly knows how the sound of this quartet has to sound like. On top you get the well done cover version of the Billy Joel classic "We didn't start the fire"!
