by Olaf Plotke (null) I lift my hat for the Power Metallers of Brainstorm: With their fourth album they did a major step ahead. Even if they don't want hear it (see interview with guitarist, Torsten Ihlenfeld), in my opinion they now have finally found their very own, unique style. In contrast to earlier records they achieved to further loosen of their ideals like Blind Guardian, Grave Digger without betraying their roots. "Metus Mortis" is fresh, modern, but is still pure Power Metal. The title, translated Fear of Death could be confusing because "Metus Mortis" is no depressive album. Already the opener "Blind suffering" is a true hitter that should live become a true hymn. And it goes on like that, 50 Minuten long. Sometimes, Brainstorm are fast and melodic like Chroming Roser in their best times, then again atmospheric like Nevermore or hitting like Rage at "Missing link"-times. A completely convincing album by a great band.
