15.I never dreamed
by Matthias Mineur (April 2005) The fabulous guitar skills of Zakk Wylde's are beyond any doubt. As sideman of Ozzy Osbourne's he became a legend, with his first band, Pride & Glory a Southern Rock-cult figure. Since a few years he regularly teams up with his Black Label Society and enchants his fans with a new output as well as a number of great concerts. The new BLS album is called 'Mafia' and shows Mr. Wylde clearly tamer than on the last records. The former Pantera heavy-riffs have been replaced by some smoother pace - which in times also results in a loss of intensity. Of course, Zakk still plays the coolest axe between Sydney and Los Angeles - his tone, his riffs, his expression are just to bend down to - and he hammers some heavy chords from the hips like noone else. But here and there are some light weights on 'Mafia'. Still an album that every BLS-fan should have. (Matthias Mineur - April 2005)
