Earth To Bella [Part 2] (Album Version)

by Marcel Anders (10.01.2007) The Californians around singer Brandon Boyd have been around for 16 years now - and still don't fit any pigeonhole. Too often they have been around with brute Metal bands, were counted as a band of the 90s-Alternative Rock, and had their biggest hits with ballads, like "Wish you were here". A controversy that sets forth on their latest album - with 13 songs daring some brave genre changes - following the motto 'the weirder the better'. That begins with the euphoric Rock in "A kiss to send us off", suddenly interrupted by a calm break. On the other side, "Earth to bella" is acoustic Folk that mutates into heavy Punk Rock, while "Rogues" pairs Indie Rock with Free Jazz. Also for the rest, Incubus easily shifts back and forth. They serve colourful Psychedelic and nice campfire feelings, as well as cacophonic noise. Sonic Youth meets Mars Volta and Pearl Jam for a mind-expanding jam session. A nasty, little grenade with subversive contents.
