by Jürgen Tschamler (18.12.2006) On their latest album, the band around Chris Boltendahl (vocals) presents itself as determined as always. Already on the last records, they had chosen a certain topic put into a concept album, "Liberty or death" is the skilful treatise with the topic of liberation movements and the wars resulting from them. Music and lyrics combine for an imaginary journey through history and, of course, Grave Digger has exactly the musical dose in store that the fans expect. Here and there, there might be more keyboards, still discreet, so that you only start to realise them after several listening sessions. For the rest, Manni Schmidt's riffs and Chris Boltendahl's unmistakable vocal lines are dominating. "Ocean of blood" is already a burner animating you to bang your head. "Highland tears", the topic is obvious, reveals a great chorus and some sawing riffs. My personal favourite of the album is "Forecourt to hell"- a fantastic old school Grave Digger killer! The digipack version of the album contains a bonus track!
