Article description

Appearing in the limited mediabook.

'LORD OF THE LOST return with their seventh studio album JUDAS and, as usual, act completely free from musical constraints and genre boundaries. With the sophisticated and detail-oriented release, which was designed as a double album from the beginning, the five musicians cement their outstanding position as exceptional artists and reach the next level with their most innovative and mature release to date, which does not fit into any category. The auditory experience begins with the atmospheric opener 'Priest', at the beginning of which a leitmotif stands, which recurs throughout the album and creates a sound symbiosis for the total of 24 songs, which are divided into two album parts - Damnation and Salvation. With the sacral 'For They Know Not What They Do', it becomes clear that JUDAS is based on an organic production of the old school: A real choir accompanies singer Chris Harms, whose impressive voice carries the gripping lyrics more directly into the listener's consciousness than ever before. Songs like 'Your Star Has Led You Astray' or 'Born With a Broken Heart' effortlessly manage to maintain the balance between harsh vocals, raw fuzz guitars and dark beauty that provide the musical foundation for LORD OF THE LOST. The latter focuses on songs like 'Death Is Just a Kiss Away', 'My Constellation' and the concluding 'Work of Salvation' through real strings and concert grand piano, as well as an impressive organ recorded in a church. As an overarching theme, LORD OF THE LOST dedicate themselves to the field of tension between the multifaceted interpretations of the character of Judas Iscariot and the apocryphal writings of the Judas Gospel - writings that consist primarily of conversations between Jesus Christ and Judas Iscariot and, compared to the New Testament of the Bible, reveal an alternative approach to the interpretation of religious history. JUDAS is the successor to the top 10 album Thornstar (2018, #6 GER) and once again breathes the innovative spirit of a musical collective that sets no limits to its very individual and distinctive art. LORD OF THE LOST has never been a band that clings to a specific genre dimensionally. Instead, over the years, they have repeatedly managed to surprise fans and critics with their unpredictability and nonconformity. With their new album JUDAS, they not only blur the boundaries between good and evil thematically and integrate the so-called 'holy betrayal' into a harmonious, never-before-heard sound, they also prove their musical and lyrical development - truly an opus magnum!'
