by Oliver Kube (01.10.2007) Like on the predecessors, the listener of the third album of the Mathcore cracks, Dillinger Escape Plan, should never be too sure about what to expect next. After the often beautifully dissonant noise-double, "Fix your face" (with ex-member, Dimitri Minakakis on mic) and "Lurch", the guys from New Jersey surprise with a great rest. Because the relatively accessible and in comparison to the quite indigestible material almost hit-compatible "Black bubblegum" not only contains thrilling breakbeats and smooth (!) falsetto vocals but also a very attractive hookline. "Sick on Sunday" even goes on like that. With the playful instrumental, "When acting as a particle", you kind of get used to the calmer tunes only to be torn out by the hurricane-like high speed killer, "Nong eye gong". Especially because of these contrasts, songs, like the epic "Horse hunter" (featuring Mastodon's Brent Hinds as guest) and the hitter, "82588", really need strong nerves.
