by Oliver Kube (11.07.2007) Their debut album, "The meaning in makeup", had some fine, dynamic songs but over its complete course appeared a bit undecided. Almost as if the San Diego-guys who were at the end of their high school days by then would be scared of their own Pop appeal. With their sophomore effort, the five have obviously wiped away all sorrows. Earwig-kind of songs, like "Boys! Grab your guns" and "Speak low if you speak love" are modern, highly melodic Alternative Rock with elements of Emo, too. In the driving forward "The innocent letter" and the edgy "There are more frightening things", singer Larry Soliman lets his band increase the heaviness, too, without losing the catchiness. But My American Heart can much more than only speed it up. Impressive proof of that is, e.g., the introverted acoustic ballad, "All my friends" or "Dangerous", provided with a smooth and very effective Jazz rhythm. You see, enthusiasm and inventiveness is a trademark of these guys and with a little luck they could face a bright future.
