by Sonja Angerer (04/03) I was so disappointed when Fear Factory split up in early 2002 after 12 years of their successful career. If you feel the same, you won't get by "Hatefiles", either, alone for the track "Terminate", the last song ever recorded by the original line-up - a short time before Burton left the band. Beside b-sides, the album contains two tracks that were recorded for video-games months after "Digimortal": "Frequency" and "Machine Debaser". Not to forget the "Cars"-version in which Gary Numan added the vocals, a very rare version of the "Obsolete"-hit as well as the three Junkie-XL remixes, "Descent", "Cyberdyne" and "Refueled". My personal favourite, however, is the strange radio rock version of "Resurrection" of Tom Lord-Alge. With this album, the Fear-Factory archive was probably more or less cleaned as the lovely edited booklet tells us. It's a shame, but at least now we have "Hatefiles" and can dream of the gold ol' days for a little bit longer.
