10.When everything goes wrong: Take the easy way out
by Andreas Reissnauer (20.03.2007) Gee! Even Victory Records call this their most furious debut album in years and you don't want to contradict. Emmure offer the whole range of fierce brutality, especially in unbelievably powerful breakdowns and intense, sometimes screamed, sometimes grunted vocals. Plenty high tune orgies and the massive production by Zeuss (Hatebreed, Terror) seem to give the listener the rest but where there is shadow there has to be light, too. And this comes across in the melodic passages loosening up and after all really completing the album. The then sometimes suffering vocals of Frankie's slightly resemble those of the big Chino Moreno (Deftones). Without these enlightening moments, Emmure would really be one of the darkest furios in years. After all, this is a debut that with its dragging pace all the way through is still indescribably negative but with the help of the melodic breaks also works in repeat modus.
