9.Passing Notes
by Jürgen Tschamler (16.01.2008) On their fifth studio album, the Americans around guitarist Chris Herin again collaborated with producer Terry Brown (e.g. Rush). The result is probably the best album of the Progressive-Rockers from Detroit ever. "Fly paper" has modern, progressive Hardrock in store, featuring melodic structures with depth and a fine, gloomy basic atmosphere. They don't need overly extended tracks, the eight new songs vary between three and eight minutes. Despite its high progressiveness, the material is seldom overloaded. And the more you get into the album, the clearer it becomes that Tiles don't orientate in other bands. "Landscape" is one of the songs that immediately get a hook in you and with its powerful bassline and the pushing rhythms make sure that they don't get out too easily. Interesting song structures and time changes perfectly add to each other in "Back & forth", one of the most accessible songs, featuring Alannah Myles on guest vocals! "Fly paper" again underpins the status of the band.
