"Fireborn" CD by Valkeat
Article description
Magic and wonder are an exclusive part of Finnish metal sagas. This music represents like no other the sound of falling snow, howling wolves, shining stars, and the flickering spirits of the Northern Lights. Valkeat are the latest ambassadors of this Finnish cultural heritage. The six-member band with two kantele players was founded in 2014 in Espoo, the hometown of the Almighty Children Of Bodom, and is about to set the world of pagan metal on fire with their second wilderness call 'Fireborn', a captivating, enchanted piece of Finnish metal history.
Valkeat is composed of singer Miikka Virtapuro, guitarist Aleksi Kulmala, bassist Juho Aarnio, kantele players Eppu Puhjo and Iida-Maria Kuronen, as well as drummer and percussionist Vesa Laamanen, and continues the great tradition of epic Finnish metal epics. Those albums, filled with sublime hymns and majestic songs, with jubilant choirs, primal melodies, and pagan spirit. So the band follows in the footsteps of their predecessors - Nightwish, Amorphis, Korpiklaani, Turisas, or Moonsorrow. Not by simply copying them, mind you. But by writing hymns to Finland, its forests, its legends, and all these otherworldly creatures of twilight.
Something great is coming. 'Fireborn' is the album that will make Finnish folk metal great again. A new beginning, a new perspective on these magical, otherworldly melodies that have been delighting us for decades. We can't really believe ourselves what this band has created here - 'Fireborn' is a flaming, uplifting, enchanted love letter to Finland and its thousand wonders.
