After focusing their last and most successful album Zeichen (2020, #16 on the German album charts) completely on their pagan roots, VARG continue on this path undeterred with their latest work, impressively manifesting their reincarnation. Honest, authentic, and raw – the new album Ewige Wacht will be released on October 13, 2023. In addition to eleven brand-new songs, the 2-CD Digipak will include an exciting bonus CD featuring various renowned guests performing all of the songs – including Rotting Christ, Kanonenfieber, Alestorm, Nachtblut, Korpiklaani, Obscurity, Tyr, Forndom, Harpyie, and Robse. VARG undoubtedly represent the spearhead of the German pagan scene, gathering worldwide fans for 18 years as a band and Touring throughout Europe and North America, consistently growing their following through numerous performances at major European festivals such as Wacken Open Air, Party.San, and Metalfest. Even after such a long time, Freki (vocals), Fylgja (vocals), Morkai (guitar), as well as newcomers Ulvar (guitar, bass), and Rohgarr (drums) still manage to deliver surprising sounds. The lineup change with two highly talented and innovative musicians brings a breath of fresh air and leads VARG into a new chapter in the band's history. Matured artistic maturity meets a unique sense of community between the band and their fans, reflecting thematically in the new album. Ewige Wacht deals with myths and legends of past times and s them into the present in the familiarly diverse pagan attire. The eighth studio album transports Nordic mythology, as well as values ​​such as honesty and loyalty. VARG once again prove themselves as an unbeatable unit – evident already in the opening track 'Immer Treu'. It becomes clear here how singer Fylgja has been more involved in the individual songs this time around. Her valkyrie-like vocals expand the band's sonic spectrum and form a perfectly balanced contrast to Freki's razor-sharp screams and growls. 'Schildmaid', 'Fylgja', and 'Eisenseite' serve as symbols for this collaboration and the path that VARG has embarked on since Zeichen. 'Weltenfeind', 'Tyr', and 'Hammer' resound as powerful anthems, uncompromisingly delivered with mercilessly brutal screeches and cutting riffs. The folky melodies in 'Morgenrot' lead to the epic 'Siegreiches Heer', which sharpens the concept of unity, running like a thread throughout Ewige Wacht. The title track represents the final pinnacle, combining pagan themes, haunting melodies, and the captivating power of the wolves.
